a few years ago, melodies family members floating points and dj red greg got their hands on a couple of original 70s obscurities. while these standout records shone brightly in their own right, the two djs saw the potential to create their own edits behind the scenes, finely attuning the original versions to modern-day dancefloor standards. of these new recordings, they cut only five copies for themselves and a few dj friends of theirs. today, melodies international is very proud to bring you mel006 and mel007. fully licensed, lovingly mastered to the highest possible standards and carefully edited to dial up that dancefloor enjoyment, these two æyouÆre a melodyÆ classics werenÆt originally meant to get official releases. but due to popular request, they are now available to play and share in very special moments at parties around the world. mel6 arrives as a 7-inch, with the original version and the edit on the flip. first released in 1979 as a three-minute up-tempo library recording, ôdisco baby-, one of 10 tracks off a record available to license for film, radio, television and other media, held some hidden magic that would only get uncovered almost four decades later. informed by years of combined dancefloor experience, floating points and red greg have slightly tweaked the original material, realising that played in the right context, it can become a true disco anthem.

baker�s dozen heads back to the east coast where veteran producer marco polo brings a welcomed boom bap flavor to the series. new york city is the birthplace of fat beats (and as many would say, hip-hop in general) and current nyc resident marco polo is true to form in representing our roots. as always, every volume of bdz features one artist and twelve tracks (with limited random copies including the baker�s dozen bonus track on a flexidisc) and comes equipped with a 5x7� postcard insert that features a photo of the artist�s workspace along with the equipment used in their music making process. a personal narrative of how they got into beat making in the first place is featured on the back of the jacket. visually cohesive and packaged with the utmost attention to detail, baker�s dozen is a series that speaks up for artists whose craft renders voices superfluous, and whose instrumentals alone suffice to make a statement.

with just one 7inch release to their name in the form of the 1981 release, jive baby on a saturday night, the cult of the jellies was possibly accidentally assured with the long lost song being rediscovered by collectors and championed by sonic youth s thurston moore no less. picked up and reissued by the stellar trunk records in 2010, the b-side cut, however, was sadly overlooked. now emotional rescue are proud to license the conversation and remaster it especially for this rerelease. based around a simple drum and bass rhythm, interspersed with crowd noise, playful female vocal yelps and sprinkled with dub effects thrown in to the mix and you wouldn t probably think too much would be going for a track that the band put together in the last two hours of their studio time after jive baby had been completed. however, what you get is a killer gem of pop-punk-dub oddness that gets your head nodding to its infectious, repetitive rhythm laden with effects. with just this one (perfect) track available for license it seemed only right to hand it over to the in-house production team, apophenia, to do their increasingly trademark dubbed out reworking, this time in the form of a true, but respectful version for the flip. with both members of the jellies sadly now living overseas this piece of early 80s british dub as it were, can now be fully treasured for posterity while also, proving a nice little smokers delight.

brightons boutique house label black key recordskicks off 2017 with a fantastic ep from label newcomer cinthie. cinthie is a well established force in berlin: as well as being a resident at key spots ipse and humboldthain club-where she spins heady vinyl only sets-she runs three much loved labels and collectives in beste modus, unison wax and beste freunde. as such, she is a true leader of the underground house scene who also runs a studio complex in berlin, and so is very much at the heart of the house conversation. kicking things off is the excellent house rhythms , a rugged, bass driven, deep house cut with flabby drums and snares and icy hi hats all sounding informed by classic deep house greats like ron trent. warm, soul infused pads emanate from the core and the whole unhurried affair really sucks you in with its cosy and romantic atmosphere. the second splendid offering is liberty, a much rawerand direct cut designed for peak time sets. again it is riddled with jazzy chords that have real soul, but the drums are exposed and banging and the whole thing barrels along at a sweat inducing pace. this is a typically classy offering from both artist and label that kicks off 2017 in real style.

zero sum is a track that has become a stone cold classic. its timeless sound and feel, is up there with tracks that form the golden era of jungle. available for the first time on 10inch vinyl, sully has worked his magic on this release. there is also a refix on the other side from one of the golden era s classic duos dem 2 ruff. their refix keeps the vibes of the original but in true dem 2 ruff fashion. it comes to slaughter your speakers, be warned its ruff but still nice too.
